Raffles

As we’re a small group with limited financial resources, about every two years we have a fund-raising raffle to supplement our income and to enable us to purchase books for our library or equipment for members to share. We work together to create a raffle prize showcasing spinning and/or weaving, and sell tickets at the Markets in the Mall, Wool Expo, and any other events we’re at during the first part of the year.

Our 2007 raffle will be a family of cloth dolls, with a wardrobe of clothes made from handspun, hand knitted, felted and/or handwoven fabric. We ran a similar doll raffle back in 2002, and it was very popular.

We’re currently working on our 2007 raffle dolls, and will have them finished by the end of January, with their wardrobe gradually building. Here’s the first one – still waiting on face and hair, but looking gorgeous in its handspun, handknitted aran jacket, and handknitted scarf, hat, mittens and socks. We’ll post more photos as they’re finished.

Our 200 raffle had a number of prizes – a fine handspun lace scarf, two hand-knitted lap rugs, some handwoven cushions, and two hand spun, handknitted beanies.
