Learn to Weave in a Weekend – 13th, 16th and 17th June

This course is appropriate for anyone who is interested in weaving, particularly complete beginners. There will be an introductory session on 13th June , 7pm-9pm, followed by a practical weekend, when by weaving a scarf, you will learn how to design a fabric, wind a warp, dress a loom and throw a shuttle, all the skills needed to continue to weave on your own. The Guild has looms which you may borrow if you do not have one. Notes, morning and afternoon teas, and 2007 membership of Armidale Spinners and Weavers are included in the workshop cost of $65. There will be the opportunity for you to purchase appropriate yarns for your scarf or you may be able to use yarns you already have. Beginner Spinning – 28th and 29th July

This workshop is for people who have little or no experience in spinning, or for those who haven’t done it for a long time. We’ll start with the basics: understanding your wheel, different fibre types, carding and combing fibre, basic spinning techniques. On Day 2 we’ll play with a range of different sorts of fibres, including commercially combed and dyed wool tops, beautiful silks, and other exotic fibres, and show you how to spin them in ways to create your own designer yarns. We’ll also bring along a range of handspun items so you can see a few of the possibilities. Notes, morning and afternoon teas, a good selection of fibres for spinning, and 2007 membership of Armidale Spinners and Weavers are included in the workshop cost of $90. For more information, please contact Judy on 6775 2107 or Bronwyn on 6775 3951.
