ABOUT US:

Armidale (in the Eastern Highlands of Australia) Spinners and Weavers is a relatively small but active and friendly group of people who enjoy working with fibres and yarns. While the name refers to just those two crafts, we all enjoy other fibre-related crafts including felting, dyeing, knitting, crochet and a variety of textile crafts, and regularly learn from each other.

A supply of equipment for most of these crafts is maintained, and we are able to loan many items to potential learners. Visitors who wish to observe, participate, or learn new activities are always welcome.

Our meeting times are:

Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 10:30 am to 2 pm.

Saturdays – the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of the month, from about 2 pm to 5 pm (also any 5th Saturday!)

A variety of workshops are also held throughout the year to cater for the interests of members (and others!).  Some of these “classes” are conducted by members, while for other more specialised subjects, some well-known artisan may be employed as a tutor.

We also occasionally visit members’ homes, attend community events or travel together to other places of interest around town and the district.

We meet in the rooms under the western end of the western Grandstand at the Armidale Showground on Dumaresq Street – drive into the Showground through the main vehicle gate about 100 metres from the corner of Canambe Street (assuming there is no major event taking place!), and park next to our room.

Expressions of Interest in “New” Crafts??

No matter what your interest is in the fibre arts and crafts, …….. felting, needle felting, dyeing, using a blending board, crochet, knitting… spinning for beginners….. it is very likely that other members of the club share that passion with you! If you would like to explore these crafts with other members of the club or of our community, please fill out and submit the form at the bottom of the “WORKSHOPS and Contact Form” link (last tab in the menu above) with your suggestions.
